School of Applied Information Technology
Department of Web Business Technology

1. Fostering of IT Professionals

Due to the rapid advancement of IT technology of these years, it has become almost unavoidable for enterprises to make the shift to web-based e-business from conventional business approaches within a short period of time. Currently, however, we are faced with a shortfall in human resources with sufficient knowledge of enterprises management and the latest IT technology, who can successfully implement this reform.

At the present time, our goal is to educate our students to become acquainted with various IT skills in the fields of Web-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Web-based Supply Chain Management (SCM), Web-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Data Warehouse and Knowledge Management. Thus, we intend to lead our students to different career paths as follows (this classification is based on MSIS 2000 by ACM):

  • CIO (Chief Information Officer)
They are highly specialized professionals who are capable of developing an environment where they formulate mid-and-long term strategic plans for enterprises, by structuring various types of management knowledge into an organized system and integrating data warehouse.
  • Internal Consultant/senior staff
They are highly specialized professionals who are capable of reviewing in-house management resources in terms of its effective utilization, and promoting their efficiency and taking total control over them.
  • Management Consultant (systems analyst/ designer)
They are highly specialized professionals acquainted with appropriate technical skills for promoting interoperate relationships within other international enterprises, which enable them to succeed in the current intensive international business competitions.
  • Entrepreneur (electronic commerce specialist)
They are highly specialized professionals who carry out internet businesses and are capable of the followings: making good use of web technology for developing e-Business sites; drawing strategic plans for providing services available via internet; and utilizing marketing approached in order to figure out consumer behavior on the internet.

Due to the fact that these professionals are specialized in more than two specialized disciplines, i.e., information and management, existing higher educational institutions have faced with difficulty in fostering highly-qualified professionals. In response to the demands of the industry, our graduate college aims at providing these highly-advanced professionals with specialized management knowledge combining with advanced IT-related skills.

2. Flexibility for Changes

The following points can be said regarding the qualifications of these highly-advanced professionals utilizing IT:

  1. Educational background in the field of information.
  2. Sufficient knowledge of the latest IT technology (e.g., web technology) and its application.
  3. Thorough understanding of business management and organizational operations.
  4. Ability of implementing projects step-by-step based on the above.

The fast-evolving IT field has been undergoing changes in every minute. In order to respond to these changes, in the first place, it is crucial that we focus on fundamental theories in the traditional IT field, which is said to be immutable (1). On that basis, students are required to understand the most-advanced IT technology, which is constantly changing (2). Furthermore, students are expected to deepen their understanding of business management in order to make full use of these IT skills in business activities (3). By taking advantage of these skills, students are also expected to demonstrate not only their practical capabilities, i.e., leadership skills and corporate training skills, but also to plan and execute projects (4).

3. Curriculum - Blending Information Technology and Business Administration

Courses are categorized into 3 groups: IT Core Courses, Web Business Core Courses and Career Reinforcement Courses.
