The Kyoto Computer Guraduate Institute of Informatics (KCGI) will hold a workshop for middle and high school students on Friday, August 8, 2025, entitled "Let's make a movie of the story of Mars Settlers using Generative AI and Digital Mandalas! The "KCGI Kyoto" will be held at the main building of KCGI Kyoto Hyakumanben Campus (7 Tanakamonzen-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto).Using the Digital Mandala, a platform for collaborative creation (people in different positions and industries working together to create something new) being developed by Professor Seiichiro Aoki of KCGI, and the functions of a generative AI, we will create a video that envisions the future settlement of humans on Mars. The number of applicants is 28 (free of charge), and the deadline for application is July 11.This is an excellent opportunity to experience the actual use of AI while coming into contact with the university's cutting-edge research. Please join us.
This workshop will be held as part of the "Hirameki☆Tokimeki Science - Welcome to the University Laboratory - KAKENHI" program, which allows fifth- and sixth-grade students, junior high school students, and high school students to directly experience the cutting-edge research being conducted at universities and research institutions under the "KAKENHI" program of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
Professor Aoki holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Osaka University and a Doctor of Science degree in Astronomy from the University of Tokyo. He specializes in astronomy, educational extension, higher education, and educational technology. He is the director of the Astronomy Dissemination Project Office, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University, and has appeared on NHK, BS11, and TV Asahi to introduce the record of natural disasters left by Abe no Seimei and other Yin-Yang masters.
At the workshop, participants brought "images obtained from the Internet or other sources that are close to the image of life on Mars that they imagine" and "text files containing the URLs of websites (universities, research institutes, etc.) that contain information on the development of Mars. Each group will load images and information into a digital mandala and produce a video utilizing the latest features of the generative AI.
