KCGI Professor Sakka Appears on NHK's "History Detective

On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, Professor Kazushi Sakka of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) appeared on the NHK program "Historical Detective," which uses field research and simulations to tackle history.

In a program titled "Onmyoji: Harakete the Darkness of Heian-kyo," a thorough investigation of Onmyoji who were active during the Heian period, Professor Sakka explained that "it is an important job of Onmyoji to quickly detect and decipher natural disasters, which are warnings from the heavens against political upheavals," and that there is a record of a natural disaster observed by Onmyoji in the "Nihon Kihon Kisaku," which was actually Halley's Comet.
