The "Coding AI Workshop" (supported by Kyoto Information Industry Association) was held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, by the "Future Environment Lab" jointly established by Kyoto Computer Guraduate Institute of Informatics (KCGI), Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG), and BIPROGY Corporation, a major IT service provider.

At the beginning, KCGI Professor Takao Nakaguchi of the Future Environment Lab explained the goals of this workshop, key points of the group work, and an overview of Coding AI, a generative AI that supports software development.Working in groups of four teams, students shared their perspectives on the benefits and concerns of Coding AI and how to sort them out.

In the group work, the students deepened their understanding with hints from their teachers.

Then, Koki Yoshimoto, president of Nidec Standard and a KCG graduate, explained how to use Coding AI.The students confirmed that AI outputs a different web page each time, even with the same instructions, and from there they learned how to make it the way they wanted it by trying it out many times while discussing in groups.I want the students to learn the reality that the way of development is drastically changing," Yoshimoto said of the workshop.I hope that early on, you will be well aware of this trend and rethink what you need to study now," he said.

Based on their actual experiences, each team made a prediction of what the field of development and education would be like in 3 to 5 years. In the final presentation, all teams presented the results of their discussions. While there was hope for convenience and the future, concerns were expressed about accuracy, security, and responsibility. This resulted in a deeper discussion on how we should distance ourselves from AI and what we need to learn from it again.

In the presentation, the teams presented their predictions for the next few years, which they discussed.

Prof. Nakaguchi and Dr. Kazuki Maenoh of the Future Environment Lab said, "The workshop was very meaningful, with lively discussions among the students.I was again surprised by the flexibility of the students' ideas," he said, "as development becomes easier, software becomes disposable, and human identity is diluted by leaving too much thinking to AI.Students commented, "Time passed quickly during the group work because of the lively conversation," "I heard many opinions and gained knowledge.I would like to make use of it in the future," and "It was genuinely interesting, and I would like to participate again.

The "Future Environment Lab" is an industry-academia collaboration where leading researchers from BIPROGY and faculty members from KCGI and KCG work together with students with fresh ideas to promote joint projects. We believe that "knowing what technologies exist in the world will give you ideas," and that "the ability to give shape to ideas also improves with training." We provide students with opportunities to view things from various perspectives and gain experience in creating new things by themselves that do not yet exist.
