Seminar Contents
(1) Diagnostic support by medical imaging systems
Lecturer: Shigeru Eibo, Professor, Kyoto Institute of Information Science
In recent years, diagnostic imaging has become a common use of multimedia data in the medical field. This is because the development of medical imaging equipment, beginning with X-rays, has enabled physicians to diagnose and treat patients by externally examining (observing) the internal information of the human body.Recently, high-definition 3D data of the human body has been acquired and stored in computers as digital human bodies, enabling measurement, processing, and display in real time. The basic concepts of image data processing and the extraction of diagnostic data from these results will be described, followed by examples of applications using cardiac-related images. We will also discuss issues that need to be resolved in the future.
(2) Image processing practice using spreadsheet software
Lecturer: Keiji Emi, Associate Professor, Kyoto Institute of Information Science
In the current subject "Information", the processing of numerical data is recommended to be done using spreadsheet software instead of main so-called programming languages. Therefore, image processing as introduced in "Introduction to Information Media" will be conducted in a practical training format. Here, students will practice understanding the principles of image processing by using each cell of a spreadsheet as a pixel, processing it numerically, and changing its color tone.

(3) Current State of Video Production in Japan and China
Lecturer: Keiji Emi, Associate Professor, Kyoto Institute of Information Science
Due to the fact that some Japanese videos (including animations) are produced in China, video production education is becoming more and more popular in China. The characteristics of Japanese animation, especially Japanese-style animation, will be discussed in comparison with those of American animation, and what points to pay attention to in creating animation will be lectured.
