Dr. Yimeng Sun's paper has been accepted for the 2020 IEEE 2nd Global Conference on Life Sciences and Technologies, to be held March 10-12, 2020, at Mielparque Kyoto in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, Japan.
Sun's paper, 'Optimized Light-Weight Convolutional Neural Networks for Histopathologic Cancer Detection' (advisor and co-presenters: Assistant Professor Fairoza Amira Binti-Hamzah KCGI and Assistant Professor Mochizuki Badr), is based on his work when he participated in Kaggle, a machine learning competition in the AI field.
In the diagnosis of pathological images of cancer using EfficientNet, an image recognition model developed by Google Inc., Dr. Sun achieved a recognition accuracy of about 98% by improving the combination of activation functions and optimization algorithms.Research on pathological diagnosis using image recognition AI is making it possible to make diagnoses in place of physicians, and Sun's research results are also expected to be used in the medical field.
