The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) will increase the number of students enrolled in 2019 from 360 to 480.On December 21, 2018, a notification of change was submitted to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. This is six times the enrollment limit of 80 students when the school opened in 2004.The University, Japan's first professional IT graduate school, celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2018.We will continue our efforts to develop leaders who will drive the IT industry in Japan and abroad.
While IT for business applications continues to make progress, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced in June 2016 the results of a survey on the latest trends and future estimates of IT human resources in Japan, indicating that there is a shortage of over 170,000 IT personnel. The report estimates that the number of IT workers will increase to 789,000 by 2030, based on the growing demand for security measures due to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, as well as the spread of electric vehicles.
Under these circumstances, the university, which has nurtured top leaders in the field of IT applications and produced competent human resources, is attracting increasing attention, and the number of applicants for admission from Japan and abroad is rapidly growing. In response to this situation, the university has decided to increase its admission capacity in order to meet the demands of society.
With the increase in enrollment capacity, the maximum number of students will be 840 in FY 2019 and 960 in FY 2020 and thereafter.
