Wataru Hasegawa, President of KCG Group (Kyoto Computer Gakuin, The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics, and Kyoto College of Automotive Technology), received an honorary doctorate from Jeju National University in Jeju, Korea on February 5, 2024.In November 2010, KCGI and KCGI signed an agreement to operate a dual degree program that allows students to obtain degrees from both universities while transferring credits.
On the same day, an award ceremony was held at Jeju National University, where President Hasegawa received an honorary doctorate from President Kim I-Hwan, and Professor Kyoko Tagawa, who teaches "Introduction to Music" at KCGI, performed on the piano.
Founded in 1952, Jeju National University is a comprehensive university with 13 faculties, 10 graduate schools including a graduate school of medicine and a graduate school of law, and many other affiliated facilities.There are 12,200 students enrolled (as of 2019), including 980 international students from 37 countries.
The dual degree program agreement between the two universities is characterized by the following: (1) agreement between Jeju National University, one of the eight national universities in Korea, and a private university (professional graduate school) in Japan; and (2) the first agreement between Japan and Korea in terms of comprehensive credit transfer without being limited to specific graduate schools or majors in either country.In September 2006, the two universities signed an academic exchange agreement for the purpose of education and research in the field of ICT and mutual personnel exchange, and in September 2008, they signed an agreement to establish a Japan-Korea Cyber Campus where students from both countries can take courses via the Internet.
