Message

At my previous school, Hokkaido University, I specialized in film theory, subculture theory, and poetry theory. I supervised many Ph.D graduates, particularly in the field of Film Theory. In addition to that, a number of my critical works have been published. I believe my career is distinguished by a significant number of publications, which are interdisciplinary yet refreshing. For a full list please refer to Wikipedia.

Main publications: Manga wa Ugoku (2008, Izumi Shobo) — primarily focused on manga; Lectures on Subcultures (2001) and Jissen Subculture (2002, Kawade Shobo Shinsha) — partially focused on manga; Shoujo Kikai Kou (2005, Sairyusha); and Heisei Border Culture Theory (2015, Suiseisha). At Rikkyo University, my previous school, I also taught practical writing, including novels, poetry, film, music, and photography. In addition to teaching, I am also engaged in creative work and have published numerous poetry collections.

At KCGI, I'm responsible for manga theory courses and will provide practical guidance in manga creation. The two may seem contrasting at first glance, but in fact the relationship between theory and creation is complementary.Creation can only be sustained through the actualization of theory. From this perspective, I hope to nurture students' creative awareness through the thematic and theoretical readings. I will use short, innovative and excellent manga works as our main material. The first step is to appreciate the other's work with great care, and to connect those impressions to one's own creations. It may be a difficult road, but I hope to walk it with you all.
