History of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics

History

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics inherits the tradition and achievements of Japan's first computer education institution, "Kyoto Computer Gakuin," which has trained information processing engineers to meet the needs of industry for 58 years.

1963

"FORTRAN Study Group" was established. "Computer Programming Workshop" for academic researchers at Kyoto University was offered. Computer education in a private school setting started.

1969

"Kyoto Computer Gakuin" was established as a full-time school.

Japan's first full-time information processing technology specialized course for high school graduates. An Information Processing Course and Information Science program were established.

1976

School was approved by the new law as a Specialized Training College, engineering post-secondary course, Kyoto Computer Gakuin.

1979

Kyoto Computer Gakuin Kamogawa and Shirakawa Campus were approved.

The Large Computer Center was completed.

1983

Prior to the advent of the personal computer era, Kyoto Computer Gakuin custom-ordered 3000 personal computers from Toshiba , and let all students take the device home to use free of charge. It was the first attempt in the world to lead the trend of downsizing in the computer industry at that time.

1984

The Kyoto Computer Gakuin Hyakumanben Campus was approved.

1985

Kyoto Computer Gakuin Kyoto Ekimae Campus and Takano Campus were approved.

1986

The founder of the school, Professor Shigeo Hasegawa, the first president of the school, passed away.

1987

The Institute for Information Science was established with Dr. Sueo Ueno, professor emeritus of Kyoto University, who was an authority on remote sensing, as the director.

1988

A ceremony commemorating the 25 anniversary of the foundation and a commemorative alumni meeting were held at the Kyoto International Conference Center.

The (IDCE — International Development of Computer Education) project to support overseas computer education was started.

1989

Corresponding to the internationalization age, Kyoto Computer Gakuin Boston opened in the United States as the first information system educational institution from Japan.

Kyoto Computer Gakuin invited Professor Robert B. Kushner from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the United States.The connection with the U.S.A. famous universities such as RIT and MIT were strengthened afterwards.

We started computer education support activities for developing countries (IDCE) at the request of various countries’ governments .

The first issue of "Accumu” magazine for the Alumni Association, also compiled by the graduates of Kyoto Computer Gakuin, was published.

1991

Construction of the new Kyoto Computer Gakuin Kyoto Ekimae Campus building was completed.

1992

A ceremony to commemorate the completion of the new Kyoto Computer Gakuin Kyoto Ekimae Campus building and a commemorative festival was held.

1993

A ceremony commemorating the 30 anniversary of the foundation and a commemorative alumni meeting were held.

1995

The Department of Information Engineering, a four-year course, was established to provide education which is more specialized than in universities.

The Institute of Information Technology was established with Professor Emeritus Hiroshi Hagiwara, an authority in information engineering, as the director.

RIT summer short-term study program (Summer Workshop) started.

1997

An education partnership with Xian University of Foreign Studies in China was established.

1998

Based on a joint graduate education project with the Rochester Institute of Technology, the RIT Master's Course for International Information Processing was newly established. Creation of the IT major curriculum was one of the earliest among educational institutions in Japan. and we offered the graduate level education for the first time as a specialized training college.

A ceremony and special events to commemorate the 35 anniversary of the foundation were held.

An educational alliance was established with Capital Normal University of China.

1999

The Japan-China joint venture program with Tianjin University of Science and Technology were established.

2000

KCG New York office opened in World Trade Center (WTC).

The Kyoto Japanese Language Training Center (KJLTC) was established.

2001

KCG's New York office was affected by the 9.11. terrorist attack in the U.S.

European Japanese Language Education Support Program started.

The Institute of Information Science and the Institute of Information Engineering were integrated to establish the Institute of Information Science.

2002

Department of Informatics (four-year full-time system) was established.

Based on the credit transfer agreement with RIT, the RIT Study Course in the Department of Media Engineering and the RIT Study Course in the Department of Information Processing were newly established to enable the incorporation of RIT into the CS and IT departments.

The office of the Kyoto Prefectural Information Industry Association was established within Kyoto Computer Gakuin Kyoto Ekimae Campus.

Educational tie-up with Beijing Second Foreign Language Institute was agreed upon.

KCG Beijing office opened in China National Library.

2003

Establishment of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics was declared

The ceremony to commemorate 40 years of foundation and Alumni Festival was held at Kyoto International Conference Center.

Educational alliance with Dalian University of Foreign Studies in China was agreed upon.

Educational alliance with the Mongolian Business University was agreed upon.

2004

“The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics" received the first approval in Japan from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a professional graduate school for IT specialists. Department of Web Business Technology, Graduate School of Applied Information Technology was established.

The opening ceremony of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics was held.

Ceremonies and events commemorating the establishment of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics .

KCG New York office moved to Rockefeller Center Building.

AIS (Association for Information Systems) Japan Branch (NAIS) Office was established within The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics .

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Korea University Graduate School of Information Protection form an academic exchange partnership.

2005

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics Kyoto Ekimae Satellite/Kyoto Computer Gakuin Kyoto Ekimae Campus New Building was completed.

The business exchange agreement with Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) was made.

A friendly partnership with the Ostrava Institute of Technology in the Czech Republic was established.

By the notification of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Information Engineering Program of Kyoto Computer Gakuin is recognized as a title granting department of the advanced diploma.

Established a joint venture department between Japan and China with Fujian Normal University.

2006

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics has concluded Academic Exchange Agreements with Ostrava University of Technology, Czech Republic; Tianjin University of Science and Technology, China; Dalian University of Foreign Studies; Fujian Normal University; and National Jeju University, Korea.

Yasuko Hasegawa, dean of Kyoto Computer Gakuin, was awarded the "Special Award for International Cooperation" by the ITU Association of Japan for her achievements in overseas computer education support activities.

By the notification of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Department of Information Science, Kyoto Computer Gakuin is recognized as a title granting department of the advanced diploma.

Selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Cyber Campus Development Project (Construction of Japan-Korea Cyber Campus).

2007

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics made an exchange agreement with Xi'an Institute of Foreign Affairs in China and China National Maritime University.

Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics holds a Japanese IT company information session on Jeju Island, South Korea.

2008

Academic education exchange agreement concluded with Pardubice University of the Czech Republic (via remote system which was the first of its kind in the world).

The first automotive control course in China was established in Tianjin University of Science and Technology with curriculum support from the Kyoto Computer College.

The ceremony to commemorate the 45 anniversary of the establishment of Kyoto Computer Gakuin and the fifth anniversary of the establishment of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics , and a commemorative alumni meeting were held.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Jeju Institute of Knowledge Industry signed a partnership agreement.

2009

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Dalian Ocean University, Dalian University of Science and Technology, China signed an agreement on a joint education program.

The KCG Museum was certified as the first "Satellite Computer Museum" by the Information Processing Society of Japan. The Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co., Ltd. (Now Toshiba Corporation) TOSBAC -3400 and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. OKITAC -4300 C systems owned by the KCG Group were certified as "information processing technology heritage" by the society.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Communication signed an agreement on joint educational projects with Jeju National University of Industry and Information Technology and Jeju Chensung Girls' High School.

2010

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and National Jeju University of Korea concluded an agreement to operate a dual degree program.

Professor Suekawa Ken passed away.

Established a joint venture department between Japan and China with Beijing Post University Century Academy and Suzhou Industrial Park Service Encapsulation Vocational Academy.

2011

The NEC (NEC) NEAC -2206 in the possession of the KCG Group is certified as an "information processing technology heritage" by the Information Processing Society of Japan.

Professor Yasuko Hasegawa, dean of the Kyoto Computer Gakuin, was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the society for her contribution to the preservation and exhibition of precious past computers.

The second president, Dr. Toshiharu Hasegawa, passed away.

2012

The NEAC System 100 (NEC) NEC in the possession of the KCG Group is certified as an "information processing technology heritage" by the Information Processing Society of Japan.

The College of Graduate Studies for Informatics Sapporo Satellite Campus was established in Sapporo City, Hokkaido.

New Content Business course opened.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics Tokyo Satellite Campus was established in Minato-ku, Tokyo.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics has been tentatively selected as an operator of Top-Level Geographic Domain ". Kyoto".

Started joint education program with Tokai Vocational Technology Academy in Shanghai, China.

2013

MZ -80 K of Sharp Corporation owned by KCG Group is certified as "information processing technology heritage" by the Information Processing Society of Japan.

Ceremonies and celebrations were held at the Kyoto International Conference Center to commemorate the 50 anniversary of the establishment of Kyoto Computer Gakuin and the 10 anniversary of the establishment of The Kyoto Graduate School of Informatics.

The Kyoto Computer Gakuin Automobile School joined the KCG group.

Kyoto Manga Anime Society Established.

Established a joint venture department between Japan and China with Wuxi Institute of Technology.

2014

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Shanghai Jian Qiao University started a joint education program.

The first dean of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics, Dr. Hiroshi Hagiwara passed away.

The school held the funeral and memorial ceremony for Dr. Hiroshi Hagiwara.

Five departments of Kyoto Computer Gakuin were certified as "professional practical courses" by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics "Cyber Kyoto Institute" is accredited by Kyoto Prefecture as the first KICK research project.

KCG Group's 50-year anniversary concert "MU ΣA" was held. Commemorative CD released.

2015

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Kyoto Prefecture concluded a comprehensive agreement on cooperation.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Sichuan Institute of International Education started a joint education program. Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) PDP8/I owned by KCG Group is certified as "information processing technology heritage" by the Information Processing Society of Japan.

Geographical name Top-level domain ". Kyoto" started operation.

The Cyber Kyoto Institute of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics opened in "Keihanna Open Innovation Center" (KICK).

An industry-university collaboration agreement was concluded with Furuno Electric Co., Ltd.

MZ -80 K of Sharp Corporation owned by KCG Group and PC -8001 of NEC Corporation (NEC) are certified as "future technology heritage" by the National Science Museum.

2016

General registration of ". Kyoto" started.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Zhejiang Communication Institute started a joint education program.

Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co., Ltd. (Now Toshiba Corporation) TOSBAC -1100 D owned by the KCG Group is certified as an "information processing technology heritage" by the Information Processing Society of Japan.

The Japan Society for Applied Information Science (NAIS) was established by The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics.

Enrollment capacity increased by 30 to 240.

Next-Generation Industrial Course was newly established.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Kyoto Prefectural Police concluded an agreement on human resource development to deal with cyber threats.

Professor Teiichiro Yoneda, advisor of Kyoto Computer Gakuin, passed away.

The Japan Federation of IT Associations was established, and Professor Wataru Hasegawa, president of the KCG Group, became its representative director and vice chairman.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics was certified as an HTML5 academic school by the non-profit organization LPI-Japan.

2017

The Kyoto College for Graduate Studies for Informatics and Kyoto Computer Gakuin jointly established the "Future Environment Laboratory" with Nippon Unisys Co., Ltd.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Shanghai University of Applied Technology started a joint education program.

The total number of students for The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics was increased to 480.

A new media collaboration course has been established.

The Kyoto College for Graduate Studies for Informatics and Kyoto Computer Gakuin had an agreement on collaborative research on ERP with Gravis Architects Corporation.

2018

A Ceremony to commemorate 55th anniversary of the foundation for the Kyoto Computer Gakuin and 15 years anniversary of foundation for the Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics, and a commemorative alumni meeting were held.

The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics and Wentian College of Hohai University started a joint educational program.

Curriculum renewal took place.

The total number of students for The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics was increased to 600.

2019

The total number of students for The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics was increased to 840.

Opened KCG Vietnam Hanoi office.

Concluded an educational tie-up with Nanjing University of Science and Technology Shikin Gakuin and Jiangsu Ocean University.

Concluded an educational tie-up with Vietnam National University of Engineering and Technology (VNU-UET) and FPT University.

Concluded an educational tie-up with the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.

2020

The total capacity has increased to 1080 people.

COVID-19 relief supplies were provided to affiliated schools.

With the cooperation of Jiangsu Ocean University and Luzhou vocational and technical college, the joint education program was launched.

Concluded an academic exchange agreement with Guilin University of Science and Technology, China.

Started joint education program with Vietnam National University of Hue (HU), National University of Danang (UD), and Hanoi National University of Humanities and Social Sciences (VNU-USSH).
