Scott Ross Special Open Lecture

Kyoto Information Graduate University has established a content business course and welcomes Scott Ross, the founder and former CEO of Digital Domain, a digital media pioneer representing Hollywood movies. I would like to talk about the issues related to special effects and VFX (visual effects).This special lecture will be open to the public, so please join us.

Special effects and VFX that make full use of computer graphic technology are now indispensable for any movie, and the technology has advanced so that it cannot be distinguished from live-action.As the VFX industry matures, an unprecedented paradigm has emerged, and the role of the VFX studio and the review of the profit structure have become desirable.In addition, with the advancement and speeding up of digital distribution technology over the Internet, various possibilities are expanding for filmmakers.

Scott Ross Profile:
One of the pioneers of digital media.Together with James Cameron, he founded Digital Domain and raised it to the largest production.In the 1970s, he worked with many bands such as the Miles Davis Group, and in the 1980s became General Manager of ILM, founded by George Lucas.In 1989, NTT supported organizational reform with the theme of “creativity”.Later, he supported the establishment of digital media departments at 14 universities in Japan.The network is wide-ranging, including government officials and CEOs of game companies, major movie distributors, director Akira Kurosawa, and game creator Shigeru Miyamoto.He is also a member of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which presides over the Academy Awards, and the American Television Arts and Science Association, which grants Emmy Awards.
