The 40th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was held at the Kyoto International Conference Hall (Sakyo-ku, Kyoto) from May 4 to 7, 2007, with about 3,000 participants, including finance ministers and central bank governors from 67 countries and regions.
On May 5, Kyoto Day, a seminar titled "KYOTO SENSE - Tradition and Innovation of Kyoto that can be shared with the World" was held under the theme of Kyoto, the host city. Associate Professor Maria Macabenta Ikeda of Kyoto Institute of Information participated in the panel discussion with Professor Chihiro Suematsu of the Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University and President Atsushi Horiba of HORIBA Ltd.
In the panel discussion, Associate Professor Ikeda analyzed the characteristics of cutting-edge venture companies originating in Kyoto from the viewpoint of the relationship with Kyoto's culture based on the results of his daily research, and presented the importance of "education that enhances creativity and open modular collaboration" in order to propagate Kyoto's know-how, which continues to produce innovative cutting-edge companies, to other countries.
