The Kyoto College of Guraduate Studies in Informatics (KCGI) will increase its enrollment capacity for the academic year 2025 from 880 to 1,000 students. In November 2024, a notification of change was submitted to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. This is 12.5 times the enrollment limit of 80 students when the school opened in 2004 as Japan's first professional graduate school. With the growing demand for highly skilled IT personnel in Japan and abroad, we have decided to increase the number of students who wish to enroll in our university, which offers a Master of Information Technology (Professional) degree, the highest degree in the field of IT applications in Japan, in two specialized areas, information technology and management. In the summer of 2022, a new building will be completed at the Hyakumanben Campus of the Kyoto Main Campus, and in addition to the Kyoto Main Campus, there are satellites in Kyoto Station, Sapporo, and Tokyo.TUAT will continue its efforts to nurture leaders who will lead the IT industry in Japan and abroad.
With the increase in the admission capacity, the admission capacity will be 1,880 in FY2025 and 2,000 in FY2026 and thereafter.
While IT for business applications continues to make progress, according to the human resource supply estimates by the three ministries of Economy, Trade and Industry, Health, Labor and Welfare, and Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, there is a shortage of approximately 220,000 IT personnel in Japan as of 2018, and the demand for IT for security measures and the spread of electric vehicles will continue to grow, leading to a shortage of 450,000 people by 2030 (medium scenario = assuming market growth rate of 2 to 5%).Industry is especially concerned about the shortage of highly skilled IT personnel.
Under these circumstances, the university has established eight specialized fields: Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Web System Development, Network Management, Global Entrepreneurship, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), IT Manga/Animation, and Tourism IT, and has trained top leaders in IT application fields and produced talented human resources required by industry. Many of our professors have extensive practical experience.
The new building at the Hyakumanben Campus in Kyoto is an advanced and innovative building with four stories above ground and one below, equipped with high-flex classrooms that can accommodate various learning styles such as active learning, innovation rooms that promote the development of new ideas, individual work booths for online classes and meetings, a library with books mainly on IT, and a large lecture hall that can also function as a multipurpose hall.Since the university offers many lectures in English, many international students from not only Asia and Europe but also Africa and Central and South America have been studying at the university in recent years.
