The Kyoto College of Guraduate Studies in Informatics (KCGI) concluded an academic exchange agreement with Jeju National University in Korea on Monday, April 22, 2024, for the purpose of sharing know-how in multilingual education. The signing ceremony was held at the Hyakumanben Campus of KCGI Kyoto, and was attended by KCGI President Wataru Hasegawa and President Shinji Tomita of KCGI, and President Il-hwan Kim and Professor Kyung-yong Kim of National Jeju University.President Hasegawa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and President Kim signed the agreement. The KCG Group, consisting of KCGI and Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG), has been promoting cooperative relationships with universities and educational institutions around the world, and Jeju National University is one of its closest partners with a nearly 20-year history of cooperation. In February of this year, President and Chancellor Hasegawa received an honorary doctorate from the university.

The purpose of this academic exchange agreement is to share the know-how of KCGI, which has accepted many international students and practiced multilingual education since its establishment, as the School of Global Studies, which is scheduled to be newly established by Jeju National University in 2025, plans to offer education in English, Chinese and Japanese. In addition, in order to promote academic exchange between the two institutions, it was agreed that one student from National Jeju National University would be accepted as a scholarship student (full tuition waiver) at KCGI.

In 2006, KCGI and Jeju National University signed an academic exchange agreement for the purpose of education and research in the field of ICT and mutual personnel exchange, and in 2008 agreed to establish a Japan-Korea cyber campus where students from both countries can take courses on the Internet. In 2010, the two institutions signed an agreement to operate a dual degree program, which allows students to earn degrees from both institutions while transferring credits. It is hoped that this academic exchange agreement will further strengthen the relationship between the two schools and that they will grow together.

Founded in 1952, Jeju National University is a university with 13 faculties, 10 graduate schools including the Graduate School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Law, and many other affiliated facilities. There are 12,200 students enrolled (as of 2019), including 980 international students from 37 countries.

At the signing ceremony, President Kim said, "I hope that this agreement will further strengthen the exchange between KCGI and Jeju National University.I was also impressed by the fact that KCGI's new campus was built very much with students in mind," he said.President Hasegawa and Chancellor Hasegawa said, "My fondest memory with Jeju National University is that as part of the Japan-Korea Cyber Campus, students from both schools took classes together via the Internet and quickly became good friends even though they did not speak the same language. We hope that the new School of Global Studies will organize trips to Japan for our students," he said.

The leaders of National Jeju National University and others visited the new KCGI Kyoto main campus building and KCG Kyoto Ekimae School, which was just completed in 2022.In the main hall of the Kyoto Ekimae School, students enjoyed a mini-concert by KCGI Professor Kyoko Tagawa, a pianist active in Japan and abroad.
