Dr. Betty A. Reardon, founder of the Department of Peace Education at Columbia University's Graduate School of Education, an internationally renowned feminist peace scholar, and the KCG Group's 40th anniversary speaker, recently passed away.We extend our deepest condolences.
D. in Education from Columbia University and an M.A. in History from New York University.For many years, she has been involved in peace education and women's rights activism in universities in other countries and in schools at the primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels, as well as outside of school, with a broad and comprehensive perspective on issues such as human security, sustainable development, human rights, the environment, and gender issues.He is one of the initiators of the Hague Appeal for Peace Global Campaign for Peace Education and has served as a consultant to numerous UN agencies.
On the occasion of the KCG Group's 40th anniversary in 2003, as part of the commemorative events, he gave a lecture entitled "Information Technology (IT) as a Driving Force for Peace Education," in which he stated that "IT can be the most important tool for achieving peace and learning for peace, but it can also be used for violence.Whenever you use IT, the value you possess will be put to the test," he reminded the students.
