KCGI President Emeritus Toshihide Ibaraki Receives IPSJ Distinguished Achievement Award

Toshihide Ibaraki, President Emeritus of Kyoto Institute of Information Science, selected for the 2024 Director Emeritus of Kyoto Institute of Information Science Toshihide IbarakiElected to the "Merit Award" for 2024Year of Merit by Information Processing Society of Japan">

Toshihide Ibaraki, President Emeritus of Kyoto Computer Guraduate Institute (KCGI), was selected as the recipient of the "Achievement Award" of the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), and was presented with a certificate and a medal at the 2025 Annual General Meeting of IPSJ held on June 11, 2025, at the 3rd floor hall of the Japan Publishers Club in Kanda, Tokyo.President Emeritus Ibaraki, who served as president of KCGI until March 2023, was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette in the spring of 2024 in recognition of his many years of service.

The IPSJ Meritorious Achievement Award is given to "members who have made outstanding contributions to academic or related activities related to information processing".President Emeritus Ibaraki is the 2024 recipient.IPSJ introduced President Emeritus Ibaraki's career and many accomplishments, and praised him for his "truly remarkable contributions to the development of the information processing field.

President Emeritus Ibaraki holds a Master's degree in Electronic Engineering from the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University.
He is a former Dean of the Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University, a former professor at Toyohashi University of Technology, a former professor at Kwansei Gakuin University, and a professor emeritus at Kyoto University.He served as President of KCGI from 2010 to 2023.He has been a visiting scholar and professor at foreign universities, including the University of Illinois, University of Waterloo, Simon Fraser University, Rutgers University, Canterbury University, and Erasmus University.
His areas of expertise are algorithms, computational complexity, optimization and its applications.He is an honorary member of both the Operations Research Society of Japan and the Scheduling Society of Japan, and a fellow of four academic societies: ACM, IEICE, IPSJ, and the Japanese Society for Applied Mathematics.

Major awards include the Yonezawa Award from the IEICE, the Bibliography Award from the Operations Research Society of Japan, the Sawaraki Paper Award from the Institute of Systems, Control and Information Engineers, the Best Paper Award from the IEICE, the Achievement Award from the Operations Research Society of Japan, the Academic Award from the Japanese Association for Mathematical Sciences (JAMS Prize), the Academic Award from the Scheduling Society of Japan, the Kondo Award from the Operations Research Society of Japan, and the Achievement Award from the IEICE.
