Kyoto Computer Guraduate Institute of Informatics (KCGI) and Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG) signed a collaboration agreement with Kyoto University Field Science Education and Research Center (FSERC) on October 30, 2025, aiming to integrate the IT field and field science. The purpose of this project is to contribute to the development of education, research, and social cooperation activities by promoting the application of information and communication technology in cooperation and collaboration with each other in the academic field of "Morisato-Umi (Forest Satoumi) Linkage Studies" proposed by the Field Science Institute.
At the signing ceremony, after introducing the background of the agreement reached through discussions between the two parties, KCGI/KCG President Wataru Hasegawa and Field Science Center Director Takanosuke Tateno signed the agreement.Center Director Tateno explained that IT is necessary in various research situations, including field surveys, automated observations, management of survey sites and specimens, and data analysis.I think IT can be used to help students reflect on what they have learned in the field, and to create opportunities for them to go out into the field, such as with digital teaching materials.I also believe that various technologies can be used to connect people to each other. We would like to strengthen these areas and think together about what we can do in the future," he said.President Hasegawa introduced the past relationship between KCGI and KCG based on the history of KCGI and KCG, including the fact that all successive presidents of KCGI are from Kyoto University. What will the students use the technology they learn at KCGI/KCG for?I am looking forward to an interesting collaboration that will combine the needs of the Field Research Institute with the needs of our students. We would like to take advantage of each other's needs and strengths," he said. Finally, as a commemorative performance to mark the conclusion of the collaboration agreement, KCGI Professor Kyoko Tagawa, an international pianist, performed Chopin's "Polonaise No. 6 'Hero'".

The Kyoto University Field Science Education and Research Center (KUFSRC) was established in 2003 as an intramural joint education and research facility by integrating nine facilities of the Graduate Schools of Agriculture and Science of Kyoto University, which have long been the sites of education and research in the forest, village, and marine areas, under the name of field science. While elucidating the interactions of various ecosystems from forests to oceans from the viewpoints of organisms and materials, we also analyze the activities and cultures of the people who nurture these ecosystems, and advocate "Mori-satoumi renkan-gaku," an integrated academic field that considers how to interact with nature with an emphasis on the environment.Based on the research results, we promote social cooperation activities to learn about the connection between forests, satoumi, and oceans and their separation, and to create various activities for a sustainable society.
