Professor Kozo Mayumi of the Kyoto College of Informatics (KCGI) and Mark Glucina, whose research focuses on sustainable process engineering, decarbonization, and energy transition, have co-authored a book entitled "Hydrogen Energy in a Sustainable Future: Phantom or Panacea?
As hydrogen energy is expected to become a trump card for the global energy shift toward decarbonization, this book comprehensively examines a more realistic role for hydrogen energy in social metabolism by analyzing it from the standpoints of natural science, economics, and energy policy.CRC Press says of the book, "Hydrogen is the first element, burns cleanly, is energy-rich, and has been hailed as the fuel of the future for generations.Today, it is positioned as a cornerstone of decarbonization and is supported by billions of dollars in subsidies. But is hydrogen really the net-zero breakthrough we've been waiting for, or a distraction from high costs? This book cuts through the hype and unravels the science, economics, and politics of the hydrogen economy with clarity and precision."
Professor Mayumi arrived at KCGI in April 2020 and teaches courses such as "Business Economics" and "Statistics for IT.He has authored many books, including Sustainable Energy and Economics in an Aging Population -Lessons from Japan (2020) and Reconsidering the Privileged Powers of Banks - The Foundations of National Monetary, Wealth and Real Capital for Sustainability (2024).
