
The large computer "IBM360 Model 40" owned by the KCG Computer Museum of Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG) was introduced in the October 3, 2025 morning edition of the Yomiuri Shimbun's "Naru Naru Kagaku & Medyo" (Science & Medical Care).In connection with the ongoing Osaka-Kansai Expo, the article, "Exhibiting the Latest Technology as a 'Legacy' for the Near Future," touches on the legacy of the 1970 Osaka Expo and the exhibits at the current Expo, which were introduced at the 1970 Expo and spread throughout the world.
The IBM 360 is "1 meter 55 high and weighs more than 700 kilograms.An IBM computer so large that it would be unthinkable today, when laptop computers are the norm, was exhibited at the 1970 Expo, and many people enjoyed playing games while looking at the display.The same type of computer is now in the collection of the KCG Computer Museum at Kyoto Computer Gakuin (Kyoto City)," the article states, along with a photograph.
The KCG Computer Museum preserves and exhibits the computers and other equipment used by KCG, Japan's first computer education institution, in education, training, and research for more than 60 years since its founding in 1963.In 2009, the Information Processing Society of Japan (now a general incorporated association) granted the first "Distributed Computer Museum" accreditation in Japan for "preserving many of the most valuable equipment in Japan.In addition, seven models, including the TOSBAC-3400 and OKITAC-4300C systems, have been recognized as "Information Technology Heritage.In 2011, KCG President Yasuko Hasegawa received a certificate of appreciation from the society.In addition to the equipment certified as "Heritage of Information Processing Technology," KCG Kyoto Ekimae School exhibits many other valuable machines from the past, attracting many visitors as a place where they can get up close and personal with the technology that supported Japan's rapid economic growth.
