Tharaka from Sri Lanka, who will graduate from Kyoto Computer Guraduate Institute of Informatics (KCGI) in March 2025, is exhibiting his artwork "The City Where Gods Never Leave" at the wall art exhibition utilizing the temporary enclosure for the construction of the building "Kyoso HUB Kyoto (temporary name)" near Kyoto Station (Shimonomachi, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City).
Taraka describes the Minayama area around Kyoto Station as "a place where the cultural layers of the past, such as Kyoto Tower, Higashi Honganji Temple, and Shoseien Garden, overlap with current urban activities," and says of his work, "If you look closely, a mysterious space appears where nature, human activities, and spirituality still exist in balance.I visually expressed that temporal continuity and the quiet spirituality inherent in Kyoto," he explains.
The wall art exhibition was planned by Kyoto City to make art accessible to local residents and students. The walls are decorated with works of art created by students from art universities and vocational schools in the Kyoto Station area, inspired by the local Shimogyo Shosei Elementary School district and incorporating designs of Kyoto's unique traditional craft "Kyo Yuzen".It will be on display through the summer.
Taraka entered KCGI in April 2023 after graduating from the University of the Arts in her home country. In August 2025, he will hold a solo exhibition in Kyoto City, and he continues to work energetically.
