
Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG), Kyoto Japanese Language Training Center (KJLTC) and The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) held the entrance ceremony for the fall semester of the 2024 academic year on Monday, September 30, at the 6th floor main hall of KCG Kyoto Ekimae Campus and KCGI Kyoto Ekimae Satellite.In the midst of dramatic changes in the environment surrounding IT, such as the evolution of AI, young people have joined the KCG family, which boasts a long history and proven track record, and started their academic lives full of hope.Congratulations on your enrollment!
Prior to the opening ceremony, a video introducing the history of KCG, which was founded over 60 years ago as the first computer education institution in Japan, KCGI, which was founded 20 years ago as the first IT professional graduate school in Japan, and the KCG Group was shown.
Next, we mourned the passing of KCGI President Shinji Tomita, who passed away on September 21.The President's achievements and legacy were introduced along with photos of his life, and all those present offered a moment of silence to pray for his repose.
At the ceremony, Dr. Wataru Hasegawa, President of KCG, KCGI, and Kyoto College of General Motors (KCGM), delivered a speech.President Hasegawa said, "Josai has been involved in the cutting edge of the Internet since its early days, and has been a progressive educational institution that has acquired the .edu domain name.I hope that you will study IT to the fullest and become students who are at the forefront of the times at this university," he requested.He also explained KCG's educational philosophy, and its history and achievements of constantly taking on new challenges with a pioneering spirit and a spirit of challenge, without being bound by the conventional preconceptions of old schools.He added, "The KCG family," or the human network of more than 50,000 graduates and alumni, is spreading around the world.You are a part of our university from today.I hope that you will take pride in your choice and decision to study at our university, and that you will make the most of your student life as you look to the future.Make as many friends as you can while you are in school, friends that you will treasure for a lifetime.Please encourage your friends to work hard together to improve their skills.I hope that you will follow in the footsteps of these outstanding seniors and become confident graduates and carve out a bright future for yourselves," he said in his congratulatory address.
KCGI Vice President Yoichi Terashita read the ceremonial address that the late President Tomita had prepared for the occasion.In his address, President Tomita first touched on the rapid development of AI, saying, "I have a particular concern about the use of generative AI.If we use them in the wrong way, they may diminish in the future even the advanced thinking, expressive, and memory abilities that are unique to human beings and not found in other animals.We must not allow the use of generative AI to diminish human thinking and other abilities," he pointed out.He asked, "As you continue your studies, it is important to think for yourselves.He added, "You will have to learn a lot in order to survive in this new era of artificial intelligence.You may feel tired.Kyoto has a scenic natural environment, a diverse concentration of culture and arts, a climate that emphasizes innovation in the midst of tradition, and a spirit of respect for students.He warmly encouraged the new students by mentioning his own longtime familiarity with the city, saying, "When you are tired of studying, I am sure it will heal your hearts.I sincerely hope that you will enjoy a meaningful student life at the University and leave with confidence when you finish your studies at the University," he added.
In response, Mr. Tan of KCGI's Graduate School of Applied Information Technology, representing the new students, said, "In today's rapidly evolving IT society, it is important to build an environment where everyone can feel secure and enjoy affluence and convenience.We believe that our efforts to achieve this goal are the mission of the information technologists to which we aspire.In order to realize this ideal future, we aim to grow by learning specialized knowledge and skills and cultivating "abundant creativity" at our university.I will never forget my original intention, and I will continue to work hard," he pledged.
