KCG's SIG will hold an Internet Governance Lecture on January 17!

The School on Internet Governance (SIG), established by Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG), Kyoto College of Informatics (KCGI), and other KCG groups, will hold an online lecture on January 17, 2025.The lecturer was Junko Kawachi, Director of the Digital Society Research Institute of the Center for the Promotion of International Economic Cooperation, who spoke on "Internet Governance in the Future Digital Society: From AI to the Global Environment.This course will enable you to grasp the international trends necessary to think about the future of the digital society.Although the lecture is intended for the general public, KCG students are also invited to attend as special lectures.

The KCG Group established Japan's first SIG secretariat on campus in conjunction with the Internet Governance Forum 2023 (IGF2023), an international conference hosted by the United Nations and held in Kyoto in October 2023.SIG Japan" is still being held after IGF2023, and the Cyber Kyoto Laboratory (CKL), established by KCGI, is supporting its activities.

The SIG aims to provide education and capacity building opportunities related to Internet governance.Participants will learn about topics such as Internet infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital rights, and will develop the skills required to participate in various Internet-based policy-making processes.

The lecture will outline the state of the Internet in the future digital society based on IGF2023, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) held annually since 2005, the Global Digital Compact (GDC) adopted at the "Future Summit" held in New York in September 2024, and IGF2024 held in Saudi Arabia in December.Everyone is welcome to attend free of charge. Lecturer Profile: B.A. in Law, Kyoto University; M.A. in International Relations, University of Kent, U.K.; Ph.D. in Business Administration and International Public Policy, Otemon Gakuin University.Since 1995, he has been in charge of international relations at the Japan Information Service Industry Association.In 2020, he moved to the Center for the Promotion of International Economic Partnerships, where he is in charge of research and study projects related to digital-related policies.He has been a member of the Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) of the UN IGF since 2022 and participates in global discussions on Internet governance.It also participates in the activities of the domestic Internet governance community and serves as a bridge between national and international IGF activities.

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a global platform organized by the United Nations to discuss public policy issues related to the Internet and has been held annually since 2006.

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a summit organized by the United Nations to promote international discussion on the information society, and was held in Geneva in 2003 and in Tunis in 2005.WSIS+20 was held in May 2024.

The Global Digital Compact is a comprehensive framework that seeks to protect digital rights, ensure Internet freedom and privacy, and promote equitable access to digital technologies, and was adopted at the Future Summit held in New York in September 2024.At its core is a commitment to design, use, and regulate technology for the benefit of all people, negotiated by 193 UN member states and developed through global consultation.
