On a beautiful autumn day following the sweltering summer heat, many graduates and their parents gathered in the main hall to share in the joy.The ceremony was streamed online for graduates and affiliates of the KCGI Sapporo Satellite and Tokyo Satellite campuses.
KCGI President Yoichi Terashita presented the “Master of Information Technology (Professional)” degree certificates to the student representatives, while the principals of each KCG campus presented graduation certificates and certificates conferring the titles of “Advanced Specialist” and “Specialist” to the graduate representatives.Next, certificates of commendation, awards, and commemorative gifts were presented to graduates who had achieved outstanding academic and research results and were selected for the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Outstanding Project Award.
In his commencement address, Wataru Hasegawa, President of KCGI, KCG, and Kyoto Automobile Technical College (KCGM), highlighted the rapid advancements in IT and stated, “Great expectations are placed on all of you who have studied diligently at this institution.”"I urge you to make the most of the knowledge and skills you have acquired, and to maintain a commitment to lifelong learning even after you enter the workforce, so that you can further enhance your skills," he said.I also believe that once you enter the workforce, you will have many opportunities to meet alumni from our university.When that time comes, please proudly introduce yourself by saying, “I’m a junior at KCG and KCGI,” build good relationships with others, and cherish those connections.Not only the horizontal relationships among program participants and graduates, but also the vertical connections between seniors and juniors will be a valuable asset to all of you."That will have a greater impact on society than you might imagine," he said.And “I hope that all of you will help shape the future history of the KCG Group.”"I sincerely hope that my alma mater and its alumni will continue to support one another and grow together," he said in his farewell remarks.
In his commencement address, President Terashita said, “What you have acquired at this university are specialized theories and technologies related to IT and AI.”These are the core technologies that will underpin the future development of human society."In other words," he stated, "this means that all of you are playing a role in supporting the development of human society through this technology."Furthermore, “I hope you will develop the ability to think for yourselves and make your own judgments about whether these technologies will be used for the welfare of humanity and the development of society, or for entirely different purposes.”"Please continue to cultivate a broad perspective, keen observational skills, and the ability to think critically—so that you do not focus solely on technology, but rather assess how that technology is used in society and what kind of impact it has," he urged.He then offered words of encouragement, saying, “I hope that you will make full use of the knowledge and skills you have acquired at this university and, with a broad perspective and sound judgment, vigorously forge your own futures.”
On behalf of the certificate recipients and graduates, Mr. Tan from the KCGI Graduate School of Applied Information Technology delivered the commencement address.After graduating from the International Art and Design Course in the Department of Computer Engineering at KCG, Mr. Tan enrolled at KCGI because he “wanted to learn more about information technology.”“At KCGI, I studied a wide range of IT fields, focusing on AI and machine learning, as well as web development using Java and networking.”In addition, through my research and experience as a teaching assistant, I was able to acquire not only knowledge but also the ability to think independently, learn through trial and error, and support others.Today, we are leaving the school we have come to know so well and setting out on our respective new paths."Drawing on the knowledge and experience I have gained so far, as well as the connections I have made with others, I will continue to do my very best to become a person who can contribute to society," he said, expressing his determination.
A congratulatory message from Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi was read aloud, and at the end, all attendees sang “The Light of the Firefly” in unison.Following this, degree certificates and diplomas were presented to each of the program completers and graduates.
After the ceremony, the venue moved to the Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto, where a celebration for the program completion and graduation was held.Alumni, graduates, and faculty and staff, with drinks and snacks in hand, chatted with smiles on their faces about memories of their student days and their dreams for the future.A raffle for prizes provided by sponsoring companies was also held, and cheers erupted every time a winner was announced.
