The “Kyoto International Manga and Anime Fair (Kyomaf) 2026,” one of the largest manga and anime festivals in western Japan, co-hosted by the Kyoto College of Information Sciences (KCGI) and the Kyoto Computer College (KCG), both part of the Information University Educational Foundation, was held on September 19 (Sat) and20 (Sun), at the Kyoto City Industrial Promotion Hall (Miyako Messe), ROHM Theatre Kyoto, and the Kyoto International Manga Museum. The KCG Group set up a booth on the first floor of the Miyako Messe venue and held an illustration workshop where participants could color in KCG’s mascot character, “Kyokotan,” using LCD tablets.
The KCG booth was bustling with visitors of all ages, from children to adults.Participants enjoyed the unique creative process of digital illustration—whether by choosing their favorite colors to freely color in “Kyokotan” or by drawing their own illustrations and coloring them. The finished illustrations were printed on the spot and turned into original fans to give to the participants. One after another, people could be seen happily receiving their finished fans, and the event was a huge success.KCG's student staff played a key role in guiding visitors and assisting with hands-on activities. While busy attending to the participants, she kept the booth lively by cheerfully greeting everyone. For the students as well, it was a valuable opportunity to interact with many people while applying what they had learned in their daily studies.
Kyomaf is held annually with the aim of promoting the content industry, fostering the next generation of manga and anime creators, and promoting these genres overseas. The venue featured a variety of exhibits and events related to manga and anime, and it was a huge success, drawing large crowds of visitors who came to enjoy their favorite works and characters.Over the course of those two days, we saw people’s eyes light up as they looked at the exhibits and others happily taking photos, and we could really feel the excitement surrounding manga and anime.
The KCG Group will continue to focus on developing talent to support the content industry—including manga and anime—through IT and computer education, while also contributing to the development of the content industry by assisting with the organization of events such as Kyoto Mafu.
